Why Learning To Predict the Weather Is Good For Wellbeing
Hi there, and welcome back,
Wouldn’t it be great if you knew the best time to schedule an outdoor event—for example, to have a picnic, meet a friend outdoors, or take your dog for a walk? Wouldn’t it be reassuring to know you’ve dressed appropriately if the weather changes?
Of course this isn’t entirely possible! Weather prediction isn’t infallible. But by learning what to look out for in nature, you could feel much more confident that the weather isn’t going to spoil your plans—at least not in the short term.
When you stop to take a more careful look at what’s going on in the natural world—the types of clouds in the sky today; the wind direction; how the birds, insects and other creatures are behaving—you’ll not only feel more alive. You’ll also be able to predict with surprising success what the weather is likely to do over the next 24 hours.
That increased awareness offers psychological benefits, as well as the practical ones mentioned above. You’ll feel calmer, but at the same time more alive and in control. Learning about the weather is a sort of Mindfulness with the added benefit of foresight!
In my next blog I’ll outline some of the signs that portend particular weather events. Until then, see if you can become more aware of the climatic conditions each day. Note the types of clouds and the wind direction each day. You could also learn how to read a barometer, and discover what it can tell you about coming changes in the weather. Perhaps you’re lucky enough to have a barometer already. If not, Youtube has a number of clips that demonstrate how to make a simple one at almost no cost.
Until next time, happy weather watching!
Best wishes,
Linda
