Why June Is the Time to Think About Sleep
Hello, and welcome to you all,
When someone mentions the month of June, what comes to your mind? An abundance of light? Warm days? Outdoor activities? Whatever enters you thoughts first, it’s probably not feeling tired!
And yet, a common complaint in summer is difficulty sleeping soundly, and when it comes to our dogs, being woken by them at incredibly early hours. What’s going on?
In this month’s offerings, Caroline and I will address the problem of a lack of sleep in summer—why it occurs, and what you can do to address the problem. Caroline will as ever focus on our dogs—why they wake so early, whether this means they’re sleep deprived, and if so what you can do to help them.
I will look at the problem from the human end of the lead, first by explaining why this troublesome wakefulness happens (spoiler alert: it’s more to do with the daily schedule that modern society imposes on us than it is any individual’s ‘fault’). In my second post I’ll give you a summer habit you can create that will go farther than anything else to reduce the fatigue you may be experiencing.
That way—by addressing both ends of the lead—we hope to help you and your dog rest more effectively this season, so you can enjoy even more all the wonderful things summer has to offer us.
Until next time, be well,
Best wishes,
Linda and Caroline
