Stepping Out With Your Dog
Hello, and welcome.
January is often the time of year we most feel like hibernating - staying warm indoors away from the cold. Despite the fact that we’ve turned a corner with the days starting to get longer, with the weather turning cold and icy do your dog walks suddenly feel more of a chore?
During the winter months, it’s important to get as much natural sunlight as possible - it helps reduce the feelings of seasonal affective disorder for us humans, as well as keeping our dog’s natural circadian rhythms in order. Getting out for exercise also boosts happy endorphins, as well as helping you feel fitter and stronger.
With 62% of the adult human population in the UK being overweight or obese and 40% of dogs being overweight, walks can bring important improvements in cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength. Taking regular walks is also shown to lower blood pressure in humans. Plus there’s the opportunity for positive social interactions – for both humans and hounds – which can help combat loneliness. So, as much as the sofa and a cozy blanket might be calling to you, once outside with your dog you’ll both feel so much better.
Our dogs are the best personal trainer you can have. Just one look at those eyes is often enough to get you up and out for your next adventure. So if starting 2022 feeling both fit and full of positivity is a priority for you - let you dog support you through regular walks together.
Until next time, happy exploring!
