January, a Time for New Challenges
Hello, and a warm welcome into a New Year,
Despite the cold weather, the New Year is a time of hope, a chance to ‘wipe the slate clean’ and make a fresh start. For most of us, that includes either learning a new skill or learning to do what we’ve been doing in a better way.
When we learn something fresh or figure out how to improve what we’re doing already, we add positively to our identity, and that in turn leads to greater self-esteem.
In my first blog in 2023, I’m going to justify the value of resolutions by explaining the many ways that new learning can enhance psychological wellbeing. Caroline, with her focus as ever on your canine companion, will explain the benefits of new learning from your dog’s point of view.
Then in her second offering this month, Caroline will address a familiar question: can you ever teach an old dog new tricks? I, too, will answer that question, although my focus won’t be on the old dogs but instead on the people who look after them.
We hope you’ll join us as we explore the many assets of ushering in the New Year with new learning—whatever your age, and however many legs you walk on!
All our warmest wishes,
Linda and Caroline
